Curt was born on April 20, 1984, in Bend, Oregon to Rick & Jan Plants. During his first 18 years, Curt enjoyed growing up in Bend, spending time in the outdoors, playing football and singing in the choir at Mountain View High School where his dad was the Choir Director and Activity Director. Throughout his life, Curt and his family spent much time at the family’s cabin at Odell Lake where he enjoyed watersports, fishing, and hiking with his grandfather, father, brothers, uncles, and cousins. After graduating from high school, Curt attended Southern Oregon University for a year and then transferred to Oregon State University.
Curt threw himself headlong into every passion and pursuit in his life, always striving for the absolute best. After immersing himself into different ventures, Curt found his passion for craft brewing. Curt enrolled at the Seibel Institute of Technology, one of the nation’s most respected brewing curriculum. He then set out to complete the World Brewing Academy (WBA) International Diploma in Brewing Technology; an International diploma program conducted at the Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany. He graduated in the spring of 2009.
After returning to Bend, Curt fell in love with Jennifer Erb and they were married October 8, 2011 at Inn at the Seventh Mountain Resort. They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Palm Springs, Mexico, the beach and the cabin at Odell Lake. Most important to him was just relaxing and spending time with each other and their two dogs, Dutch and Odin.
Together with Ty Barnett, Curtfounded GoodLife Brewing Company in Bend in 2011. For the last six years, Curt was the Brewmaster, creating award-winning craft beer, seeing his vision for success come to fruition. Not only did he strive for absolute excellence, he created GoodLife to be more than a company; he created a culture of acceptance, of second-chances, relationships and family. He truly embodied the Good in GoodLife.
Curt is survived by his wife Jennifer Plants of Bend, Oregon and their two beloved dogs Dutch and Odin; parents Rick and Jan Plants of Bend; brothers Mark (& Amy) Plants and Scott Plants of Bend, nieces and nephews Ethan, Elliot, & Corinne Plants of Bend; Grandmother Connie Plants of Hillsboro, Oregon; Grandfather Mel Olson of Philomath, Oregon; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Curt will always be loved and cherished by all who knew him. He will especially be remembered for the biggest bear-hugs, his contagious laugh, and his ability to make everyone around him feel at ease. Curt was a gifted guitarist, who had the innate ability to compose music easily and beautifully, and built his own guitar. He loved everything about music, appreciated the nuances of each genre, and loved sharing it with others.
We will continue to hold dear the gifts he has given each of us, and the legacies he has left with those he loved: his unconditional love for his family and friends, his ability to make all around him feel like family, and the capacity to unite people from all walks of life.
